He studied energy and chemical engineering at Technical University of Berlin. He is working in the field of solar water treatment since 2003 at Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems and has written his PhD-thesis about cleaning of ultrafiltration membranes. He has professional experiences in membrane technology especially microfiltration, ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis. Current R&D activities are the design of big PV-pumping systems without batteries, hybrid desalination processes for zero liquid discharge solutions and smart operating control algorithms for dynamically driven reverse osmosis processes. Since 2004 he is developing and leading and national and international funded projects in the area of PV-driven water treatment systems.
